Sierra Leone lecturers participate in NFE dialogue

Mr. Edward Turay (in photo), Senior Lecturer in the Division of Extra Mural Studies Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone led a two man delegation to the International Workshop on Good Practices in Capacity Development of Non Formal Education (NFE) Teaching Personnel in Asia and Africa held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 4th to 8th July 2011.

The Seminar was organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.

The prime objectives of the confab are to formulate a common capacity development framework for NFE teaching personnel in the regions, to prepare country action plans for operationalizing the framework for NFE teaching personnel, and to draw on experiences of best practices and lessons from Asian and African experts represented in the workshop and define areas for UNESCO technical support.

The meeting was also attended by Madam Agnes Pessima, a Senior Lecturer from the same department.

Mr. Gbonie Conteh

Meanwhile, Mr. Gbonie Conteh, Budget Analyst/Officer, Budget Bureau in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development attended a Consultative and Experience Sharing Forum on Remittances Leverage for Development from 7th and 8th July at the African Union Commission (AUC) Headquarters in Addis Ababa.

The specific objectives of the meeting are to promote: a better understanding of monetary and banking matters in Africa, as well as the pertinent aspects of fiscal and exchange rate policies;  assist in improving the qualifications of central bank and other financial agencies’ personnel in Africa through the organisation of seminars and special training courses and the publication of surveys and research studies; conduct research and systematise the results of past experiences in the above fields; and  inform on developments in regional and international monetary and financial policy issues.

Participants were drawn from the AUC, United Nations Agencies, the World Bank, the European Commission, International Organisation for Migration, the African Development Bank (AfDB), the African Diaspora Organisations, the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development, Pan African Productivity Association, and the Private Sector, among others.

Momodu Kargbo

Recently the Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mr. Momodu Kargbo represented the Government of Sierra Leone at the 35th Anniversary Symposium and the 33rd Annual Ordinary Meeting of the General Assembly of the African Reinsurance Corporation (AFRICA RE) at the United Nations Conference Centre in Addis Ababa.
