Rain or shine, Africell shares love with Salone children

Africell yesterday commemorated the Day of the African Child on the theme ‘Girl Child Education is a Must’ in collaboration with Music Makers and the Children’s Forum Network at the National Stadium car park.

Head of Media Relations at Africell, Nancy L. Joseph, said Africell throughout its operations in the country commemorates the Day of the African Child with Sierra Leonean children, reflecting their minds in the 1976 Soweto massacre of children demanding rights to education.

She furthered that Africell adheres to corporate social responsibilities in the enhancement of children’s educational pursuit for the development of the country.

“Even the rainy weather could not stop Africell to join children of Sierra Leone in celebrating the Day of the African Child. This is not the first time of celebrating the African Child’s Day as Africell has contributed immensely in the education of children in Salone. Africell contributions in the development of the country hand it to be the Number 1 GSM operator in the country throughout its operations in the country.”

She said that the company has awarded several scholarships to schools for their educational pursuit.

Children’s Forum Network President, Edmond Amara acclaimed Africell for its immense contributions in the development of the country more especially in the awarding of scholarships to school children.

“Rain or shine, Africell shares love with Salone children. It has contributed greatly in the educational sector of the country,” he said.

He disclosed that the Organization of African Union (OAU) now African Union (AU) approved the remembrance of Day of the African Child in 1999, adding that: “the day is not a celebration, but of reflection and remembrance of the Soweto children in South Africa that fought and died in the course for their right to education in 1976.”

Edmond Amara encouraged his colleague’s children to focus on their education and change their attitudes for the betterment of this nation.

“The children are the future leaders of ‘Mama Salone. Education is the key to a country’s development. So let’s hold fast with our education to push development in the country,” he said.

He called on all stakeholders to work together to see that children are educated for the advancement of the country.

Minister of Youth and Sports, Paul Kamara, lauded Africell for its contributions in society and admonished the children to put more efforts in their education.

“Only education can make you successful in life and contribute in the development of your nation,” he said

The CEO of Music Makers, Alhassan Kamara, commended Africell for partnering with them to commemorate the day.

Similar statements were also delivered by the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources.

A year Scholarships were also awarded by the Sho-Sawyer Development Organization to winners of the musical competition, Augustine Fornah, a Class V pupil of Apostolic School, Adesayia Street and Esther Conteh all JSS I pupils of Dr. S. M. Bromwich secondary school in Dwarzack.
