President Koroma consolidates Nigeria-Sierra Leonean tie
Sierra Leone’s President Ernest Bai Koroma arrived in the Federal Republic of Nigeria Saturday May 28th, with a five man delegation not only to witness the inauguration of President elect Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, but also to further consolidate the cordial relationship between Sierra Leone and the Federal Republic of Nigeria, said Minister of Information and Communications, Alhaji Ibrahim Ben Kargbo. “The arrival of the President at this point in time will also strengthen the bond between him and President Jonathan”.
Major streets in the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja are not only cordoned by sophisticatedly equipped police, mobile police, State Security Services, and anti terrorist police personnel, but are also decorated with the country’s green-white-green colour.
President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is the fifteenth Head of State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the fourth democratically elected President after the return of Democracy in Nigeria.
Speaking in an interview soon after his arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, the Minister who doubles as Government Spokesman said the people of Sierra Leone continue to guard the fraternal relationship not only because of their historical tie dating as far back as the pre-historic period, but also of recent developments, relating to economic activities involving the two countries.
Furthermore, the gesture extended by the Nigerian Government in recent times in improving human resource – through capacity building need not be overemphasized.
Through the Technical Aid Cooperation (TAC) program the Nigerian Government is supporting Sierra Leone through the deployment of Teachers, Lecturers, and medical Doctors.
As President Jonathan is sailing through the baptism of inauguration, Sierra Leoneans are proud of him. This pride was re-echoed by President Ernest Bai Koroma who openly declared that he will support the newly elected Nigerian government.
Commenting, Paramount Chief Charles Caulker the newly elected Chairman National Council of Chiefs said he feels highly honoured to be among President Ernest Bai Koroma’s delegation to witness the inauguration of President elect Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
President Ernest Bai Koroma and delegation arrived 3:49 a.m. Saturday, after eleven other Presidents and Heads of State of Government and representatives from different parts of Africa, Europe and Asia.
Saturday evening will see President Ernest Bai Koroma joining his colleagues at a state banquet hosted in honour of His Excellency President elect, the great country Nigeria, the good people and friends.
The Inauguration will take place on Sunday May28, 2011 at the Eagle Square, Abuja, Nigeria.
Other members of the delegation include Minister of Political and Public Affairs, Hon. Alhaji Alpha BS Kanu, Resident Minister Northern Province, Hon. Alie Doyle Kamara, and Paramount Chief Allie Marrah.
President Ernest Bai Koroma and delegation were received on arrival by Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner HE Henry Macauley, Deputy High Commissioner Edwin Sam Mbomah, Head of Chancery Duwai S. Lungay, First Secretary Rakie Macarthy and Information Attaché Pasco Gerald Temple.
