Youth President Blasts APC Editor

The President of National Youth Coalition (NYC), Ishmael Al-Sankoh (in photo), has described the recent publication in the ‘We Yone’ newspaper as irresponsible – (Did SLPP Presidential Aspirant Influence NYC Strike Threat), and says the Editor acted recklessly.

Al-Sankoh yesterday told Cotton Tree News (CTN) that the story published on the front page of the APC ‘We Yone’ tabloid, is misleading and bears no truth, but real time practice of terrible and dirty journalism.

“The NYC has put out a release refuting thoughtless assertions published in the ‘We Yone’ newspaper of 23rd May, in which it alleges that one of SLPP Presidential aspirants influenced NYC’s strike threat,” the Youths President said.

It is a fact that the ‘We Yone’ newspaper has had free ride in the propagation of views of the ruling APC party and on the other hand telling off opponent political parties unchecked.

Be it told that the ‘We Yone’ newspaper is owned by the APC party and has existed for a considerable number of years.

Sources say that recent publication put out by the ‘We Yone’ newspaper reproachfully and libellously said things negating SLPP Usman Boie and the executive of the National Youth Coalition (NYC).

“Contents in the ‘We Yone’ publication are unprofessional, misleading and a real display of yellow journalism. The NYC therefore demands the immediate resignation of the editor of We Yone newspaper. Of course, we intend to drag him to court for libel.”

Some loyalists of Usman Boie have told this press that their leader is currently putting documents together to enable him to institute legal action against the editor of the ‘We Yone’ for bringing to disrepute his hard earned character.

It must be summed up that shortly after the announcement of the transformation of the measurement system for fuel oil from imperial to metric, the NYC speedily came up with a statement denouncing the decision of government as uncalled for and unfavourable to vulnerable Sierra Leoneans.

The NYC however imposes a 21 day ultimatum on government for a reverse to the imperial system of measurement or face strike action from two million youths.

Unconfirmed information reaching this press states that government has had private discussions with the youths and some sections of civil society.  That it keeps on calming members of the NYC to stay off their wished-for strike action.

It must be noted however that the writer of the story in the ‘We Yone’ of Monday 23rd publication pinpointed at leaked information given him/her by one Alphonso Manley a protagonist of the NYC.

“Coming in the wake of the twenty-one day strike notice, one of the NYC protagonists Alphonso Marley inadvertently disclosed their action was being influenced by ill-motivated politicians,” as said in the story published by We Yone.

By the aforementioned reference, it makes obvious that the word ‘inadvertently’ depicts ambiguity, that Alphonso may either have made such a pronouncement unconsciously or said it unknowingly to a journalist.

Facts have it that any information received by way of subterfuge is unprofessional and must be avoided except for the sake of public concern.

Surveys carried out indicate that the story published by the ‘We Yone’ against Usman Boie and executives of NYC was a deliberate attempt to detract stances of NYC on issues explaining fuel measurement and price increases.

Some schools of education demand that the ‘We Yone’ editor be taken to court to enable him prove beyond doubt that the story published by him bears the truth and not to bring disrepute to characters of a statesman and institution as the case may be.
