Anti Corruption present 2010 Annual Report

FREETOWN: The Commissioner of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Joseph Kamara has today presented the Commission’s 2010 Annual Report to President Ernest Bai Koroma at his Hill Station Lodge.

Introducing, the Deputy Commissioner Buya Kamara and Board members of the Commission, Joseph Kamara said they were delighted to present the Commission’s 2010 Annual Report.

He noted that it has been a challenging year but the ACC has been able to prosecute 17 cases, including eight convictions and two acquittals.

In the year under review, he informed that they have organized a National Training Workshop, printed brail materials for the School of the Blind and signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the United Kingdom Government.

He commended the President for the support and independence given them in the discharge of their duties.

According to the Commissioner 70% of the people are aware of the work of the ACC.

Commissioner Kamara also on behalf of the Commission presented to President Koroma a cheque of Le 1.8B as recovery cash and an addition of two more cheques totaling USD 9,450 and Le 611.141.401 respectfully. These monies, he said are to be paid into the Consolidated Revenue Fund.

Receiving the Report and Amount President Koroma said government is very pleased with the performance of the ACC and will ensure its independence is guaranteed.

He noted that the submission of the ACC’s 2010 Annual Report is a clear indication of the Commission’s dedication to duty.

Government, he said takes delight in receiving such reports.

“A sincere effort must be made to make Sierra Leone a donor country and the ACC must play a leading role.

There will be challenges always but they must be met. I therefore commend you for retrieving funds and other related, as we must emphasized on good governance” said the President.

He called on them to continue to engage government, private sector and everyone.

‘Please don’t rest but continue to work very hard, with your team surely you will live up to the task” President Koroma said.
