Hadji Bangura helps Appollon to Cup final

The defending champions defeated Anorthosis at the Antonis Papadopoulos stadium on Wednesday 1-2 to reach the final in what many soccer pundits describe a boundless enthusiasm prevailing amongst the Apollo squad.

The Sierra Leonean was very much instrumental for his side when he came in as a substitute in the 28th minute for Oseni and showed he is back on top of his game with a brilliant effort to level the score line on the day, after Anorthosis had taken the lead in the 7th minute with a header from Cafu.

Apollon Serbian international, Miles Mirtakovits sealed the victory for his Limassol side in the 88th minute and showed why the coaching staff  gave first priority in with a new contract which is said to be announced within 24 hours.

It could be recalled, the first leg of this semi-final competition at Tsirio Appollon Stadium between both sides ended in a 1-1 draw.

The entire Apollon side were magnificent and provided a sample of football value away from home. However, the hero of the match was undoubtedly the Mustapha Bangura and his Serbian teammate Mirntakovits Miles. Miles is the top scorer of the tournament so far.

The team from Apollon is in the final for the 13th time in its history and has a chance against another strong side Omonia; if they are to lift the cup for the second year running they will have to go through Omonia who are lying second in the Martin Laiki league table.

Elsewhere, Omonia won a difficult match beating Ethnikos at the Dasaki they were behind in the 53rd minute with Ethnhikos goal coming from Kempatze. Making it 1-1 aggregate as Omonia had won their first game at home 1- 0.

Into extra time they went, Omonia with an added advantage when Petrovic got sent off in the 90th minute for a second yellow card. Omonia capitalised on this advantage and eventually rewarded with a goal from Leandros in the 113th minute. Omonia now go on to play Apollon in the Coca Cola Cup final.
