Obreh’s Baku cup adventure is over
Sierra Leone’s national team captain, Ibrahim Obreh Kargbo’s FC Baku side in Azerbaijan lost the chance to reach the final of the Azerbaijan Cup this year despite winning the second leg 2-1 against Khazar Lankaran goals from Rosha, 49 and Fabio Luis Ramim, 85.
They were eliminated on away goal rules after Lankaran got their away goal equalizer in the 58th minute from Rahid Amirguliyev to level the score line on the day, that proved to be the most important to see off the host team.
The first leg of the semi’s Lankaran won by a goal margin at home, it is interesting to know two Sierra Leonean players were involved in both legs – Gibrilla Woobay who plays his trade with Lankaran, will be part of this year’s Azerbaijan Cup final.
Both players for the first time play against each other at international level, the two players participated again in the first leg encounter; however Kargbo played full time whilst Woobay played for 88 minutes.
Again in the second leg Woobay was exchanged for Emeka Opara in the 46th minute of play after missing vital goal opportunities. Woobay is part of this year’s history as his side Khazar Lankaran got to the final for the fourth time in five seasons and the club was established in 2004.
The final is slated for Monday 23 May 2011, Lankaran will face Inter Baku.
