Initially the association selected 16 players for the above training after trial matches but later added two more players; Jacob Mansaray and Ibrahim Mansaray.
Peter Kiesten during his tour at the Kingtom Oval spotted Abass training alone and invited him to join the team.
Abass an all rounder was awarded Man of the Series Award in Nigeria a few months ago after the North/West Africa U-15 tournament. Apart from the U-15 tournament he was in the U-13 tournament in Ghana two years back. He won ‘One man of the match award’ and helped the team to win the runners-up trophy and Silver Medal. Abass has also played for the U-19 and senior team of Sierra Leone.
Talking on his invitation, Abass said it was always his dream to try his next chance with the senior team. “I know it is a call from God and I am going to make good use of the opportunity,” he added.
Peter Kieston said he is impressed with the performance of the players during the few days training. He went on that if they keep it up no team will stop them from winning the trophy. He has also stated that he wants 7 top batsmen in the team.
The increase in the number of players has created more competition among players as to who will make it up in the last 14 man list.
