Murder… Lebanese kills man for diamond
A miner in Kenema died after being ruthlessly brutalized by paid up gangsters for purportedly stealing a 5.5 carat diamond.
Patrick Foday, a local miner in Kenema, died after receiving a merciless beating from Mohamed Jaward (Lebanese national) and his bunch of hooligans.
The deceased, we are told, is accused of stealing and selling a 5.5 carat diamond to someone in Bo, instead of submitting same to Jaward, who they say is their mining supporter.
Facts have it that Jaward received information that Patrick Foday and Co found a 5.5 carat diamond, but sold it to an unknown diamond magnate in Bo.
That upon hearing the information, Jaward unfailingly ordered his boys to go get Patrick Foday (deceased) alive and bring to him.
The deceased was later ganged and dragged to the resident of Jaward, who angrily joined his hooligans in hardheartedly brutalizing the deceased.
Police sources say Jaward ordered his boys to tie the deceased and fellow miner Alimamy, to a stick at the backyard of his residence at Hanga Road in Kenema town.
A mines officer by the name of Sahr got grip of the information and approached Jaward at his house where also he met the deceased and Alimamy tied to a stick at his compound.
Upon the visit of the mines officer, the deceased and co were untied, offered money and told to go to home.
Two days later, the deceased fell sick at his home at Baama Konta village – profusely vomiting blood.
He was rushed to the Kenema hospital, but died on the way.
The police later reached the scene and arrested relatives of the deceased including the father.
Much to the amazement of the police, the deceased’s family, at a point, did not tell how their brother was brutalized by Jaward and group.
Sources close to this press indicate that Jaward went as far as bribing family members of the deceased.
According to information from the police at Kenema, it is told that the father later confessed to the police that his son (the deceased) was pitilessly beaten by Jaward two days before his death.
Jaward was later caught and detained, but released owing to postmortem report submitted to the police by Doctor Owiss.
Public opinion casts suspicion on both the police and Doctor Owiss, who they say have been bribed to cover up Jaward’s covert killing conduct.
It has reached desks of Sierra Express that Jaward has left Kenema and is in Freetown to lobby officials exonerate him from prosecution for murdering a Sierra Leonean.
The headquarter office of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) sources say that the file has been submitted to the office of the Attorney General for legal advice.
