ECOWAS heads of state to restructure ECOWAS and elect new officers

Sierra Leone’s President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma has today Tuesday March 22, 2011 arrived in the Federal Republic of Nigeria with a five man delegation to attend the 39th ordinary summit of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of Economic Community of West African States Commission(ECOWAS) to restructure the sub regional body, elect new officers.  (Photo: (L) Nigeria’s Science and Technology Minister Prof Mohammed K. According to Sierra Leone’s Information and Communications Minister Hon. Alhaji Ibrahim Ben Kargbo, other members of the delegation include Deputy Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation Minister Hon. Mrs. Ebun Jusu, Deputy Minister of Finance & Development Hon. Mr. Foday B.L. Mansaray, and State Chief of Protocol Sulay-Manna Kpukumu.

“We are here to attend the 39th ECOWAS ordinary session to address issues relating to the restructuring of ECOWAS Commission and elect new officers.

We are also here to elect a new Sierra Leonean Judge to the Bench of ECOWAS Community Courts, and a Sierra Leonean ECOWAS Commissioner.

In addition, we are here to deliberate on matters relating to the stability of the sub region, mostly at the bilateral levels.

At the moment, the state of instability in Ivory Coast is a matter of grave concern for West African leaders including President Ernest Bai Koroma: it has dire consequences on the lives of the people and dreadful effect on the country and the region. They will review a decision on suspending the Republic of Niger, review Memorandum of the decision of suspending the Republic of Guinea and also, discuss the matter of Chad for Observer status with ECOWAS.”

At the Abuja, Presidential Airport wing, President Dr. Ernest Bai koroma was received by Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Permanent Representative to ECOWAS, H.E Henry O Macauley, Nigeria’s Minister of Science and Technology Professor Mohammed Kaoje Abubakar, ECOWAS Trade & Customs Commissioner Alhaji M. B. Daramy and other staff of the Sierra Leone High Commission.
