CAF postpones African youth championship in Libya for security reasons

The Confederation of African Football has announced on its website that the African Youth Championship slated for Libya between March 18 and April 1 has been postponed because of the rebellion against the Moamer Kadhafi-led regime.

This came as a statement from African governing body CAF on Thursday due to security concerns and the current unstable political situation in Libya, the competition has been postponed to a later date and within a location to be confirmed by CAF in the next few days.
World champions Ghana, Cameroon, Egypt, Gambia, Lesotho, Mali, Nigeria and hosts Libya were scheduled to play in capital Tripoli and second city Benghazi, which fell under rebel control several weeks ago.

Algeria, who were awarded the 2013 youth championship, have proposed taking over with Libya replacing them in two years. South Africa have also been mentioned as possible hosts

The semi finalists will represent the continent at the FIFA U-20 World Cup slated for 29 July-20 August, 2011 in Colombia.
