President Koroma wraps up his European visit with a message to APC Holland branch

President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma on Wednesday admonished a cross-section of the APC party executive in Holland to remain steadfast and united in their activities when they paid him a courtesy call at his hotel in Brussels.  (Photo: ACP Secretary General, Dr. Muhammad Ibn Chambas in a private conversation with President Koroma)

He informed them that the party is doing very well and bracing up to deliver a knock-out blow come the 2012 Presidential Elections. He thanked both the executive and members of the APC Holland chapter for their huge contribution towards the 2007 elections when they provided the party with a radio station which contributed hugely to the successful wrestling of power from the SLPP that year.

In his address, Sulaiman Bangura, a member of the executive said both the executive and the general membership of the party in Holland are very proud with the direction Sierra Leone under the rule of the APC. “The improvements you have made are enormous especially in the areas of energy, agriculture, roads, freedom of speech, uniting the country, transparency and accountability”, Mr. Bangura reiterated.

Mr. Bangura paid glowing tribute to the members of the former executive for the relentless role they played to enable the party regained power after many years of provocation, intimidation and marginalization . He pledged their unflinching support to the party, the President and the government. He furthered that from the reports they are gathering back home, they are sure of the party emerging top in 2012 with an earthquake victory.

In his response, the Political and Public Affairs Minister, Hon. Alhaji Alpha Kanu gave an overview on the achievements of the government so far since assuming power in 2007.

The eloquent minister said the difference between the APC and other political parties is that whilst other parties are coercing people to join them, the people willingly join the APC party because it is a party created by the ordinary people and a party where the ordinary person has a say and will be listened to.

President Ernest Bai Koroma later paid a visit to Mr. Andris Piebalgs, the Commissioner for Development in the European Commission and held a closed door meeting.

He wrapped up his Brussels two-day working visit with an address to the Ambassadors of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries at the organisation’s secretariat in which he assured them that despite the mixed fortunes of Sierra Leone as the country approaches its 50th Independence Anniversary, it is still committed to the ACP Group and its partnership with the European Union and preparing to host the next ACP/EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly in November this year. “The legendary hospitality of Sierra Leoneans towards foreigners awaits you in Freetown”.

As President Koroma was addressing ACP Ambassadors, First Lady, Madam Sia Nyama Koroma was alternatively holding fruitful discussions with spouses of African and Commonwealth Ambassadors in Brussels.

Other members of the President’s delegation include the Ministers of Finance and Economic Development, Hon. Dr. Samura Kamara; Information and Communication, Hon. Alhaji I.B. Kargbo; Political and Public Affairs, Hon. Alhaji Alpha Kanu respectively.
