Brig. – Gen. R.Y Koroma and entourage were earlier received by the Republic of Sierra Leone Embassy’s Defence Attaché Lt. Col. Julius Hindowa Metzger at the Mano River Bridge last Thursday. The delegates were later welcomed by Liberia’s Defence Minister Hon. Brownie J. Samukai Jr. followed by a tour on Montserrado city. The CDS and entourage also paid a courtesy call on Ambassador Rev. Dr. Mrs. Marie. J. Barnett at her 15th Street Chancery. In her welcome remarks, Ambassador Barnett briefed the General on the bilateral relationship between Liberia and Sierra Leone and security matters within the borders. She further highlighted some of her achievements in the mission and planned activities for Sierra Leone’s 50th anniversary this year. In brief, the Head of Chancery, Mr. Tamba E. Juana advised that there was a need to revisit the memorandum of understanding (MOU) that was signed by the two Ministers (Rtd. Major Alfred Palo Conteh and Hon. Brownie Samukai) for Sierra Leone and Liberia respectively during last year’s Anniversary at the Barclay Training Center (BTC) in Monrovia.
In response, Brig-Gen. R.Y Koroma promised to take back home the good message and thanked Ambassador Barnett and team for their continuous effort. The celebration was graced by a friendly football match between Liberia and Sierra Leone’s Armed Forces that ended in a one to one draw. A reception was organized for all delegates by Liberia’s Defence Ministry and a lunch hosted by the Sierra Leone Embassy in central Monrovia. Accompanying Sierra Leone’s General for this all important ceremony was Col. Tamba Allieu, and Lt. Col. Samuel Yajah, among other senior and junior officers.
As Sierra Leone celebrates its own Armed Forces day on February 18th, it is believed that Liberia’s Defence Ministry among other delegates would be fully represented for a return friendly footbal match between the two sister Ministries.
