Is that the legacy left by Paul?

For some time even before he left to take up a ministerial appointment Paul Kamara’s for-di-People newspaper had taken on a new format. In place of a formal editorial like in the past, the paper introduced its readers to a conversation among certain characters headed by uncle Joe. There was Makuta, of course and the title of the page was “Mama Salone en Pikin.” Much of the dialogue was pro APC propaganda especially as Paul had set his eyes on the chairmanship of the national youth commission. It didn’t occur to the poor fellow that he was much too old for that kind of assignment in this twenty first century. It must be granted to Paul that he tried really hard. (Photo: Dr. Sama Banya)

To compensate him his Excellency appointed him minister of sports and youth employment. He began his assignment with a full face attack on the Sierra Leone Football Association with whose management he he had been at loggerheads for some considerable time. Someone may have reminded my friend of longstanding that his portfolio included the all important youth employment.

I am not sure who is now in charge of Uncle Joe and his lot, but they appear to be specializing in fabrication. In the Wednesday February 16 edition it was reported by one of the created characters that Dr. Banya, meaning me of course, had conceded that the APC had made inroads into Kailahun district. This columnist hereby throws a challenge to the editor or author of the said piece, to when at any time Dr. Banya had made such a statement. The poor fellow must have been carried away by the statement I made that the APC was in a scramble for Kailahun district and that its test case was to be constituency 04 comprising the Kissi Tongie chiefdom which has been vacated by honourable Tamaba Bobor-Sawyer now deputy minister of health in the ministry of health and sanitation.

I have been advised that anyone who did not use the minister’s full title in addressing him ran the risk of an upper left to the jaw from the former boxer police man. It is common knowledge that the party is pouring millions into the district in general and into the constituency in particular just as it did in the two constituencies in the Pujehun district prior to Parliamentary bye-elections were held there. As an old man who has always taken his cue from previous experience I was merely advising my friends of the red sun that they must expect no different result in Kissi Tongie than the one in Pujehun. Does spending such colossal amounts of money, not on development but on outright bribery coupled by visits by the top brass of the party constitute making inroads? Why not havea word with your folks Paul? On the other hand they may be taking after you. After all you were not quite free of those untruths sometimes.

I have continued to receive complimentary comments on my mobile phone even as I was busy with family and other matters in Kailahun, for the short piece on our renowned legal luminary on constitutional matters in the Kailahun district. I have not been disappointed by his behavior as my niece Sylvia Blyden who took the lawyer at his word only to have confidence shattered. Of course ther is a way forward in the matter but it is for the national executive of our party to bring it out. The likes of us can only continue to advise from the sidelines and it is a responsibility that I and my colleagues of similar mind take very seriously.
