Police Arrest 30 at Ahmadiya Sport

Thirty citizens, including pupils of Ahmadiya Secondary School Thursday got into police nets for possession of dangerous and offensive weapons, and disorderly behaviour during Ahmadiya Secondary School Sports at the National Stadium.

The arrest of 30, it is revealed, came after officers attached to the anti violence squad in the SLP intercepted persons found possessing offensive and dangerous implements during moments of sporting activities by officials and pupils of Ahmadiya Secondary School.

In totality, 18 are school leavers while the remaining 12 are pupils from respective junior and senior Secondary schools in Freetown.

It could be recalled that in the past, pupils have engaged in riotous and violent conducts during moments of school sports.

Citation must be drawn to the case of a school pupil nicknamed Mark Fish, who stabbed to death a colleague during sport sessions.

Persons so far arrested attends the Sierra Leone Muslim Congress, Ahmadiya Muslim Secondary School, Government Model Secondary School, Bishop Johnson Secondary School, Collegiate Secondary School, Municipal Secondary School and Huntingdon Secondary School.

It must be noted however that the Anti Violence Squad is legally mandated by section 13 of the Criminal Procedure Act of 1965, to arrest without warrant, persons found committing any offence involving violence and dishonesty.

It is yet not known whether all 30 will face court proceedings, but sources say police have gone through their investigation and may soon submit case and enquiry file for court for hearing.
