Traffic Police in State Avenue Bribery Scam

Four police officers and Okada task force personnel arrested over 20 Okada operators, but released them after receiving bribes.

Findings say the officers are attached to Central Police at the traffic department.

Credible information reaching this press denotes that some traffic police officers have had jolly days harassing and extorting monies from drivers and Okada riders plying the State Avenue route.

The police, it is confirmed, arrested and extorted Le 20,000 each from some twenty or more Okada riders, shortly after President Koroma’s and Vice President Sam Sumana’s motorcades processed their way to respective offices for work.

Eyewitness accounts revealed how traffic police past Saturday were seen sharing monies they received from persons arrested for violating traffic regulations.

Facts say that the arrested Okada riders paid lump sum to secure their release. 

Four police officers (name withheld) were spotted sharing out money among themselves at the City Council’s security post at State Avenue.

The officers were approached by our reporter, but confuted arresting and receiving bribes from any of the arrested Okada riders.

“We’ve not directly arrested the Okadas. It was their task force officers that arrested them,” the police officers said.

In an interview with some of the riders, it is disclosed that the police have been treating them like slaves.

That everyday the police ask them for money or risks arrest.
