Presentation of Credentials to the Russian President – Dmitry Medvedev by Ambassador John Sahr Yambasu
Feb 7, 2011 – The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Embassy of the Republic of Sierra Leone to the Russian Federation, His Excellency, John Sahr Yambasu has presented his Letters of Credence to the President of the Russian Federation, His Excellency, Dmitry Medvedev.
In a colourful ceremony at the Russian Kremlin, the Ambassador, who was among 10 other Ambassadors from Italy, South Africa, Ukraine, Malaysia, Kazakhstan etc. was received by the Russian President in the Kremlin.
After receiving his Letters of Credence, The Russian President stated that as a permanent member of the Security Council, Russia has always played a major role in International matters ranging from economic, political and social issues that affect the world.
He stressed on International terrorism and the political problems affecting the world, emphasizing that Russia will be always ready to support democratic principles all over the world.
President Medvedev registered his thanks and appreciation to all countries that sent in condolence messages in relation to the recent suicide bombing at the Moscow International Airport and vowed to bring the perpetrators of that bombing to justice.
Speaking to Ambassador Yambasu in particular, the Russian President maintained that his country was fully ready to engage in trade negotiations with Sierra Leone with a view to establishing concrete Government and private Sector investment. Mr. Medvedev pointed out that his Government intends to look at the entire fishing industry in Sierra Leone that will make an impact between Russia and Sierra Leone. He opined that he would instruct all the various Ministries in Russia to respond to the needs of Sierra Leone, citing human resource development as a priority area on his plan for Sierra Leone.
Responding, the Ambassador of the Republic of Sierra Leone to the Russian Federation, H.E. John Sahr Yambasu, on behalf of the President of Sierra Leone, His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, thanked the Russian President for accepting his Letters of Credence.
The Ambassador dilated on the infrastructural developments that are going on in the country now and the touristic potentials of Sierra Leone, which, according to him could serve as an area of Investment.
Ambassador Yambasu stated that Sierra Leone has a functional democracy and called on the Russian Government to support the efforts of Sierra Leone Government in maintaining this goal.
The Ambassador also held private discussions with the Ambassadors of Ukraine, Malaysia, Czech Republic, Kazakhstan, South Africa and Italy immediately after the Ceremony.
A reception was held in honour of the Ambassador at the Embassy and the Head of Chancery and First Secretary-John Laggah and Henry Nyandemoh served as masters of Ceremony respectively.
