DPP Robin-Mason in Dangerous Traffic Offence

Sierra Leone Director of Public Prosecution Oladipo Robbin-Mason on Wednesday afternoon brazenly faced the traffic, driving half the length of Pademba Road on the wrong side of the road.  Flabbergasted pedestrians watched aghast as the DPP, driving himself in his ADS 177 Toyota Prado, and accompanied by his police guard pulled out of the slow moving traffic and faced incoming traffic.  The traffic warden stationed at one of the junctions was questioned by pedestrians as to why the big vehicle was allowed to jump the queue and drive on the wrong side of the road.

The traffic warden replied that the vehicle belonged to law enforcement officials, and that is why it was allowed.  A male pedestrian hissed at the irony of the statement, which appeared to be lost on the traffic police officer.  He reminded the traffic police of a day he was arrested at that same spot for driving while wearing slippers, which the traffic police say is an offence.  He didn’t have a policeman sitting beside him, so he was arrested.

Legal officers are responsible for upholding justice.  They need to act as model citizens and abide by the law at all times. But what happens when a legal officer breaks the law?

In this case the senior government lawyer and protector of public law abused his privileges, broke the law, and crossed over to the dark side.

It became an interesting conversation on Pademba Road.  These guys are probably breaking the law all the time.  What do the poor people do? Take them to court?

An irate woman shrieked – these people should get even harsher sentences than ordinary people when they get caught in this kind of reckless and dangerous driving.  If he is not patient enough to drive in traffic, he should employ a driver and relax at the back.
