Despite going down to ten men in the second half in the Group A encounter they went ahead with a qualifying spot in the semi-finals of the African youth U-17 Championship.
This is a big improvement for the host nation, their French international coach Richard Tardy has hailed his side for their commitment to the people of their country.
Talking to journalists, Tardy was very specific about the performance of his Junior Wasps and now focuses on winning the tournament and preparing the boys for the World Cup in Mexico.
Now the pressure is on the defending champions Gambia who faced humiliation in their first match against Congo, they will have to win their next two encounters before taking a spot in the Mexico 2011. With two U-17 trophies already in their history they will not want to miss out in the World Cup.
Meanwhile, the Burkinabe’s are hoping to for a place in the semis and a spot in Mexico after reviving their chances by defeating Senegal 3-2 on Tuesday in the group’s other game.
