Sierra Leone’s 50th Independence Anniversary
Washington, 5th January 2011: The Embassy of the Republic Sierra Leone in Washington D.C. in collaboration with the North America 50th Independence Anniversary Planning Committee informs Sierra Leoneans, friends of Sierra Leone and the general public of the activities lined up for the grand celebration of Sierra Leone’s 50th Independence Anniversary.
THEME: “50 YEARS FORWARD – CELEBRATING A NEW SIERRA LEONE”
January 2011:
Islamic Prayers: Friday, January 7, 2011 at the Sierra Leone Community Center, 3307 Hubbard Road, Hyattsville, MD 20785, at 1:00 p.m.
Christian Prayers: Sunday, January 9, 2011 at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 7410 New Hampshire Avenue, Takoma Park, MD 20912, at 3:00 p.m.
March 2011:
Prayer and fasting: Sunday, March 20 – Friday, March 25, 2011: One Week of Muslim and Christian fasting and prayers.
Wednesday, March 23rd 2011 will be observed as the Inter-Religious Memorial Day (March 23, 1991 was when the RUF rebels launched their atrocities on defenceless civilians in Sierra Leone).
April 2011:
Reception and Cultural Show: Friday, April 22, 2011 at the Armour J. Blackburn University Center, Howard University, Washington DC. 20001.
Symposium: Saturday, April 23, 2011 at the Howard University, Washington DC, 20001.
Live Theatre: Friday, April 29, 2011by the Sierra Theatre Production at the Montgomery College Theatre Hall 7995 Georgia Avenue Silver Spring, MD.

May 2011:

Visit to South Carolina: Wednesday, November 9, – Sunday, November 13, 2011visit to the Gullah community in South Carolina.
