The Commercial Director Mr. Keith Tukei says ‘Football is a game that unites people regardless of age or status in society. Therefore, Airtel will continue to support football initiatives in the country so as to bridge the gap between them’.
Airtel subscribers are encouraged to embrace the Western Area Football Referees Association in carrying out its fitness exercise programme for referees in the Western Area. The idea behind the fitness exercise is to build on the capacity of referees in the country so that football games will be manned by professional referees. Due to certain factors, the Association has decided to start in the western area and will later reach other places in the country when the need arise.
“Our new brand will connect Africa physically through mobile communications, and Africa as a continent has a rhythm, a style, a feeling which connects communities and cultures, Football connects the continent emotionally, and that is the essence of promoting the Western Area Football Referees Association (WAFRA) as one of the company’s developmental initiatives in the country”, said the Head of Corporate Affairs and Communications of Airtel, Kelvin Kellie.
This is not the first time the company is sponsoring football in this country. Airtel was the sole sponsors of the live commentary aired by the SLBC with regards game between Sierra Leone and South Africa and on many occasions contributed to the development of the football game in the country. The just concluded Airtel Corporate Gala at the Wilberforce Oki Pitch was a case study about the company’s interest in football in this country.
Airtel will continue to do more in promoting the nature of the game as there are huge opportunities throughout Sierra Leone to transform the nature of football and how communities interact. And, as one of the world’s top 5 mobile communications companies, Airtel will continue to deliver relevant and innovative mobile solutions to help people overcome their daily challenges.
