Okada Riders, Police and Thieves

 

There is a lot that can be linked between the police, commercial bike riders, more commonly known as ‘Okadas,’ and armed robbers operating country wide.

The reality as discovered by Mr. Express is that the police are the highest owners of ‘Okadas,’ the Okada riders are in turn part of the criminal gangs operating the armed robbery network in the country, and this adds to the fact that the police are part of the criminal clique operating in the country.

Let us be fair enough and come out with facts that will prove we are serious in tackling armed robbery in the country.

There is no need denying the fact that ‘Okadas’ are a contributing factor to the spate of robbery in the country, especially in the city of Freetown, and that they are the ones who provide the information for the robbers to strike at their selected targets.

The police announced that all ‘Okadas’ should not operate within the central business district of the city, it did not work as the riders, with impunity drove at high speed, honking their horns in front of State House.

Even though police media man Inspector Ibrahim Samura has announced repeatedly that ‘Okadas’ should not be allowed after a specific period, the ‘Okadas’ have continued to follow their usual system. This shows that the police are:

(1)        Either conniving with their robber ‘Okada’ riders operating in the cities and at the end of the day, if not the night, the police boss receives his share of the loot.

(2)        Or the police have lost the power to effect any rule or regulation because while they are given orders from one side of their mouth, they are disobeying the same order from the other side of their mouth.

Police boss Brima Acha Kamara has politicized the police and as a result those who are paid up members of the APC can take any action with impunity, including buying ‘Okadas’ which help to carry out armed robbery in the cities.
