Many football pundits’ called on the Sierra Express Media after they learnt that Sierra Leone junior National side in the Under 17 Championship, Sierra Stars have failed to make the tournament in Rwanda as they suffered a 2nil defeat in the hands of the young Elephant in Abidjan.  (Photo:  Sierra Stars)

It was obvious that from the first leg encounter the Ivorians showed a massive footballing attitude away from home, and in that regards they were always going to be the favourites immediately they take two goal advantages away from home.

Though Sierra Stars put up a fight in Ivorians territory but their hope was finally dash after two late brilliant goals in what look like closed contest until Abou Fofana scored the opener on 82 minutes and Captain John Thome Yoboue sealed victory.

However, many pundits talking to Sierra Express Media outlined the fact that for many years they have been following Sierra Leone football from senior to junior National side’s they always fail at home, football in Africa winning glory start from home.

“It is disappointing but not a shock, if you follow our football closely this is how we eliminate ourselves from many various competition we always fail to get results at home,” a pundit expressed his feelings.

“Leone Stars vs. South Africa in September for Afcon qualifiers was a perfect example, a win would have put Sierra Leone in a driving seat, competing with big names in Africa you have to come up with victory so the football world will recognise you at all costs, taking advantage of home matches with the home fans behind you, you have to go for glory, what I still don’t understand is why they anticipate when playing against big names with no perseverance to win,” Baima points out.

Another caller was furious with the fact that Sierra Leone has talented players but always not up to the task to produce result when needed.

Sierra Stars had only reached the finals of CAF Under-17 Championship in 2003 and they were a better side when they reach the grand finale but lost to Cameroon 1-0 in extra time but ended up as runners-up.

They afterwards qualified to represent Africa at the FIFA World Youth Championship in Finland that same year but failed to impress as they were eliminated in the first round stage.
