Andrew Keili Speaks in Dallas, Texas
November 14, 2010, Dallas Texas – On Friday, November 12th, a cross section of Sierra Leoneans living in the Dallas-Fort Worth community, flocked the United Banquet Hall located in Dallas to listen to Mr. Andrew Keili (in photo), a very strong and convincing aspirant for the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) flag-bearer position as he unfolded his manifesto for the 2012 Presidential election in Sierra Leone.
Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas is becoming a major power house that will ultimately help determine who gets the SLPP nomination come time for the nomination convention. It will be recalled that barely two weeks after the well articulated Dr. Kadi Sesay stormed the metropolitan cities of Dallas-Fort Worth to showcase her presidential credentials, another strong aspirant for the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) flag bearer position, immediately followed suit to make a fair case for the presidency.
For residents in Texas, Sierra Leone’s presidential campaign has kicked into high gear, as the numerous candidates take this time to meet with voters in Texas in the hope of becoming the country’s next leader. Supporters have begun to put up posters, design T-shirts and work the phone lines all in hope of wooing support here in Texas and back at home. These were examples of some of the campaigning strategies that the Andrew Keili team beautifully put together over the weekend.
Many SLPP loyalists, APC diehards and independent-minded Sierra Leoneans, attended the symposium organized by the Andrew Keili 2012 campaign team in Texas lead by Mr. Harry Seilenga and Mr. Sam Zoka. The calm and charming engineer, Andrew Keili, presents his political agenda for Sierra Leone with a spectacular presentation focusing on “implementation of policy” as one of his main target for Sierra Leone’s socio-economic development.
In his presentation, the self-confident Andrew Keili, had some tough words and some praises for both the SLPP and APC parties. “Despite some of the developmental progress the present government is undertaking, there are many lapses that are curtailing the full blown progress of development in Sierra Leone,” he said. “The backwardness of our country whether social, economic, education or cultural, is not just the responsibility of one government alone but all the past governments”, he ascertained. “I must doff my hat to the APC government for completing some of the projects that were begun by the SLPP government”, he concluded.
Mr. Keili commented on the woeful plight of education in Sierra Leone particularly the new educational system which in his own words is not viable due to certain systems that are in place. The health sector is in dire straight, the mining industry is being criminalized with fraudulent contracts, and the private sector is in shambles he went on. “Indiscipline continues to prevail and lack of capacity building for the youths are all contributing factors influencing me to join the race for the highest office in Sierra Leone,” he added.
Discussing these challenges, Mr. Keili catalogued some of the strategies that he will employ to tackle some of the problems should he become the next president of Sierra Leone. “If elected as president of the country, I will ensure that there is full respect for law and order, capacity building for youths, women and children, infrastructural development and the provision of experts for the implementation of policies”. He also mentioned that under him, those in the Diaspora who wants to go home will find it easier to return, settle and work for their country.
Typical of most symposiums, there were question and answer session which included everything which pertains progress in Sierra Leone. In the Lone Star state of Texas, the hottest topics on the presidential agenda focus primarily on quality of life issues. People want to know about access to water supply, Bumbuna electricity, employment for youths, help for those in the Diaspora and they want price controls on the cost of food, such as rice, which is a staple of the diet Sierra Leone and currency stagnation.
Based on initial turn out, performance and participation, Mr. Andrew Keili must count himself a lucky man to have The Andrew Keili 2012 campaign team as efficient and organized as the other campaign teams so far. Whether this transcends into actual votes for Andrew Keili come the SLPP nomination convention in 2011 is left to be seen.
Until then, congratulations to Team Keili for a well planned event.
