ABC Secretariat Takes on Airport
The Attitudinal and Behavioral Change Secretariat has on Wednesday 16th September visited the National Airport at Lungi to update the workers about the importance of attitudinal and behavioral change for the development of the country, taking into cognizance that the Airport is the primary gateway to the rest of the country.
The programme which was chaired by Mr. Alieu Badara Kamara who happens to be the National Coordinator of the Attitudinal and Behavioral Change Secretariat brought together staff of the Airport Authority to au fait them with the need to have their attitude and behaviour changed
In his opening remarks, the chairman and head of ABC thanked the Airport Authority staff for the reception accorded them which according to him is a show of their commitment in heeding the President’s call for the change of attitude and behaviour towards national development. Mr. Kamara noted that that for the past 48 years; Sierra Leoneans have failed this country as a united people and all this he said, happened because of the negative attitude of citizens towards national initiatives and development ideals.Â
The visit he said will take the form of a participatory discussion where the staff of the Airport should express their perception about attitudinal change in the way of national development in the country; adding that if the whole world must realise the change of attitude by Sierra Leoneans, it must start from the workers at the port- the primary receptionists of visitors to the country.
Other speakers in the programme noted that Sierra Leone had once been the pride of West Africa but is now the laughing stock to other African countries; which according to them will only be changed if attitudes and behaviours are changed.
“Government workers as well as private institutions do not need the Anti Corruption Commission if only they embrace the Attitudinal Change concept of the president,” the Coordinator remarked during an interactive session in the meeting; calling on all in the country to put hands on deck in the re-branding of the country.
Mr. John Sesay, the Airport Operations Officer welcomed the visit of the ABC team admitting that they have inculcated the entire salient and discreet counselling offered; promising to serve as the foremost ambassadors in the changing of attitude in the country.Â
Mr. Philip Conteh; Director of ABC secretariat in his statement expressed that Sierra Leone is a great nation with rich culture, tradition, and talented people that trade in tolerance; a quality he said that must be applied in the changing of attitude and behaviours in the country. He admonished them to avoid the ‘Pulling Down Syndrome;’ advising that they work in complement of each other, having the success of the national agenda for change and development at heart. He advised that they should be seen coming to work early and quit being corrupt by avoiding bribery.
The ABC team called on the departments at the airport – Customs, Immigration, Duty Free, and the rest to embrace change as a way to develop the country for the benefit for all and sundry.
