Sierra Stars fail to take advantage

The Baby Elephants came from behind to hold their Sierra Leonean counterparts to a 2-2 draw in their Rwanda 2011 Africa U-17 Championship final round first leg encounter on Saturday in Freetown in the qualifying encounter for Africa Youth Championship.

The hosts took the lead before the Baby Elephants levelled and shot into the lead before a stoppage-time equalizer earned Sierra Stars a vital draw.

Alhaji Kamara fired Sierra Leone into the lead on five minutes with a superb strike that caught the Ivorian goalie off-guard.

But their joy was cut short six minutes later by Agban Victorien, who drew parity before Coulibaly Salif shot the Ivorians into the lead for the first time in the game on 22 minutes.

Just as the Baby Elephants were cruising to victory, Kamara struck the equalizer in added-on time to save his side from defeat ahead of the return encounter.

The second leg will be staged in Abidjan in a fortnight with the winner of the booking their place at the final tournament scheduled for Rwanda from 7-22 January, 2011.
