Tax Expert, Corruption Indictee!
High Court 2 Tuesday 2nd was to read 57 count charges slammed against Allieu Sesay when suddenly an objection was raised by lead defence lawyer, N.D Tejan Cole.
The scene went dramatic shortly after the one time National Revenue Authority Commissioner General, Allieu, approached wells of High Court 1to take pleas on 57 counts charges against him.
The jam parked court witnessed the father of the former head of Anti Corruption Commission introducing himself as Counsel for the defence of a man his son had investigated for corruption.
Court visitors were left in surprise when it was observed that the father of Abdul Tejan Cole who instituted corruption investigation against Allieu has surfaced as lead counsel in defence of the latter.
It must be noted that the indicted former NRA head used to badge himself as Sierra Leone’s only tax expert.
Dressed in blue shirt, black trousers and a black pointed shoe, Allieu was seen practically remorseful, devastated and discouraged while in dock to answer to allegations against him.
Allieu was with his wife and three others to culpably answer to variety of corruption charges against them.
The indictment as charged ranges from flouting procurement rules to that of misappropriation of funds.
Tejan Cole, who acts as lead counsel for the defence, asked for an adjournment to enable him make careful legal judgment on issues bordering jurisdiction.
Although lawyer for the prosecution, R.S Fynn, objected to the request of the defence, the matter was adjourned for Monday 8th.
