President Koroma jets into London for Leadership Summit
Sierra Leone’s President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma (in photo) arrived this evening in London ahead of tomorrow’s high-profiled Private Equity In Africa 2010 – a Leadership Summit For Private Equity Investors.
The programme will take place in South West London at 1, George Street, London, and it is expected to attract some of the most prominent names including investors not only in the United Kingdom but the rest of the world.
President Koroma will be presenting the keynote address on the topic: “How Private Investment Drives Economic Growth and Development”
According to the programme “Sierra Leone presents one of the most compelling stories of Africa’s resurgence in the 21st Century.
Since the end of its civil war, a combination of smart development assistance and business-friendly reforms has set it firmly on the path to economic transformation.”
Among other things, the President will be looking at the role private investment is playing in Sierra Leone’s recovery; and how has the country lowered barriers to investment and created a business friendly environment as well as ways of how investors could be incentivised to invest in key sectors.
The welcoming remarks will come from the Co-Chairmen Carlos Perry, Chief Operating Officer, EMPEA and Simon Blackmore, Publisher, This is Africa – an offspring of the United Kingdom-based Financial Times.
Several high-profiled distinguished personalities are expected to grace the all-important programme including the British Member of Parliament Stephen O’Brien – Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for International Development, who will deliver the introductory remarks of the programme.
Panellists will include David Creighton, President & CEO, Cordiant Capital, Runa Alam, CEO & Partner, Development Partners International, Graham Thomas, Managing Director, Private Equity Division, Standard Bank and Jeffrey Leonard, President & Chief Executive Officer, Founding Partner, Global Environment Fund.
The President is expected to return in Freetown the following Tuesday.
