Sierra Leone moves up in FIFA World ranking!
Sierra Leone has moved to number 122 in the latest FIFA World Rankings.
Leone Stars climbed ten places in the latest list released October 20 to their highest position in recent years, this latest improvement is due to their recent form in the Afcon qualifiers were they held the African Champions in Cairo and playing 0-0 with 2010 World Cup host South Africa in Freetown.
The higher rating will certainly help any proposed move for more Sierra Leonean players to move to or be watched in Europe, with the national team discovering new talent across Europe.
Sierra Leone’s next football contest is in Niamey next year in a bid to reach 2012 AFCON to be co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
Meanwhile, two of their opponents in Group G in 2012 Afcon qualifiers, South Africa is up to 52 and Egypt continues to head the African list, despite their shock defeat to Niger recently, followed by Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Algeria and Nigeria.
Spain remains the top side in the global list, followed by Netherlands, Brazil, Germany and Argentina.
