Apropos! Who ask you Puawui?
There was a time when the lady by the name of Christiana Thorpe went to my residence to discuss her concerns. I am sure that she found some if not all of my suggestions and follow-up actions helpful. Sadly after the events of September 2007 she and I have only met by coincidence if not by accident, but our personal feelings not withstanding we have always been warm in our greetings. Much has been said and written about Christiana Thorpe by mostly members and supporters of the current APC government. Oh yes, the former United States Ambassador to Sierra Leone Dr. Thomas Neal said some very flattering things about her when he was being installed as a Visiting Professor at an American college.
In contrast to that group, she has come under very scathing attacks and deservedly so from the likes of me and many others over her conduct of the September 2007 runoff election results. The opposition Sierra Leone Peoples’ Party has continued to vehemently oppose her reappointment as NEC commissioner. The opposition is not just coming from a handful of the party leadership; rather it goes right through the entire membership.
In Parliament recently all 44 out of 45 opposition Members of Parliament walked out when the APC dominated House insisted on confirming her nomination. When former President George Bush nominated John Bolton as United States Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations that nomination was opposed by the opposition Democrats. The President went ahead all the same and sent the man up but only because Congress was in recess. However the man himself weighed the strength of the opposition to his appointment and resigned honourably. I
n neighbouring Guinea one of the opposition parties had taken exception to the erstwhile head of the Independent Electoral Commission, leading to violent protests. The Guinea government gave in to the concerns of the opposition over the man’s ability to be impartial.
It is difficult to fathom why our head of state refuses to heed the genuine concerns of the SLPP by refusing to ask for Christiana Thorpe’s resignation. Just look at her attempts to manipulate the appointment of other commissioners, her total disregard of her own guidelines and rules for appointment to key positions; yet his advisers refuse to advise his Excellency to rescind the appointment.
I now wish to offer UNSOLICITED ADVICE to the dear lady to honourably tender her resignation to the President even as she awaits her legal battle with the SLPP over invalidation of the votes of 477 polling stations in 2007. How long before she allows common sense to prevail by her doing the most honourable thing? His Excellency must also be advised not to dig his heels in merely for political reasons.
Ho ho ho! Surprise, surprise dear readers. The famous editor of Peep magazine has never read or heard a very common joke about the late great British statesman Sir Winston Churchill and a political lady opponent who allegedly took a jibe at him. He is challenging Puawui to produce the book, magazine or newspaper which has ever carried the story. Come on Olu you must be joking.
Ah! The things dangling between my legs are my original testes, not even carbon copies; granted the number and motility of their contents may not match those of my late friend Bunting-Davies but they’re still mine. Puawui does not succumb to threats and ultimatum be they 72 hours or more. Olu in your own interest, please don’t take me to the IMC because I won’t turn up, believe me.
