Rapist JP imprisoned

A 54 year old Justice of the Peace this past Thursday made his way to the Central Prison after being refused bail in a case of rape.

Philip Mammie who works as Senior Mines Officer and is a Justice of the Peace, made his second appearance before Magistrate Emmanuel Harding, to answer to a single count charge of rape.

In his first and second appearances, the accused was refused bail and made to sleep in the cells at the maximum prison on Pademba Road.

The complainant, whose age was told as 54 years revealed sequentially the incident that resulted to her being raped by Philip Mammie.

In her testimony, she told the court how she encountered the ugly rape in the hands of the accused shortly after having confrontation with persons owing her some money.

That on the 8^th September she was at Forth Street to purposely collect monies owed her by persons unknown and because debtors seemed to not want to pay her, an argument therefore ensued between her and the debtors.

The accused, upon hearing them use invectives against each other, reached her and tactfully took her to his premises, as if pacifying her from having a misunderstanding with others.

She further told the court how the accused had impersonated being a sitting Magistrate and will help secure monies persons have to pay her.

“On the following day, I was at the Freetown City Council when I received a call from the accused. He asked me to meet him at his house,” the complainant said. “I later reached his house and I was allowed access into the parlour.” Adding, “No sooner I entered the house, he surprisingly and quickly closed the main door and pushed me to a chair, he later dragged me into his room and tied my two hands and kept me against my will and raped me for two days.”

The complainant’s testimony continues in the next adjournment. Bail was refused.
