Fire consumes six lives

At around ten past four on Thursday 9th September 2010 fire broke out at Lower Personage Street, Kissy, eastern Freetown. The cause of the fire was not known as no one survived to tell the story.

According to the security guard, who refused to disclose his indentify, Mohamed Sesay the owner of the house called him at around ten past four Thursday morning to enquire whether he had the key to the exit door of the house, but the security guard replied that he did not have it .During that time the top floor of the three story building had been engulfed with thick smoke.  An unconfirmed source said that after all effort to secure the missing key failed Mohamed Sesay started calling on friends and relatives informing them about the misfortune that come his way and the effort by his family to locate the key.

The National Power Authority (NPA) was described as a major factor for the house to be consumed by fire as all attempts to called them to put the power off to enable friends and relatives to help find a solution to the thick smoke before it burst into flames was never achieved.  The light was only put off after half of the top flat had been consumed by the fire.

Another disappointment registered by Kissytonians was the unavailability of the Eastern Division of the Fire Force, a stones throw to the said incident.  Instead the West Division stepped in to find a way and means to stop the blazing fire.  Because of the delay, the fire force was unable to prevent the death of Mr. Mohamed Kamara the husband, Mrs Rugiatu Kamara the pregnant wife, and four of the children. Their remains were laid to rest on Friday at Mabroka.
