President Koroma congratulates Joselia Gbondo

President Ernest Bai Koroma has congratulated and urged the only Sierra Leonean representative in the live international reality TV programme ‘Project Africa’, Joselia Gbondo, for “proudly representing Sierra Leone.”

During a courtesy call paid to him by the socialite at State House on Monday 13th September 2010, President Koroma said, “we have been monitoring the project on TV, and we are happy that you were flying the flag of Sierra Leone out there. The fact that you participated was a great pride for us and you are indeed a role model for the youths of this country.”

The Head of State said the Nigeria-based programme provided Ms. Gbondo with a forum where she demonstrated her talent, and that “having a talent of this nature is very unique, as such a talent’s discovery needs the greatest effort.” He said the competition was well publicized “and even those of us who have limited time for television could manage to have a glimpse. Thank you for successfully representing Sierra Leone and projecting us on the international platform, showing that young Sierra Leoneans can do great things.”

The President urged Ms. Gbondo to “continue to do what you are doing,” even as he assured her of his personal support and “will ensure that government and related institutions support you to get to your fullest potential in terms of exhibiting your talent.” He urged her to work with the Attitudinal and Behavioural Change Secretariat so that she could be further promoted for others to be motivated.

In earlier presenting Ms. Gbondo to the President, Altitudinal and Behavioural Change Director, Philip Conteh, thanked President Koroma “for insisting that you want to see and congratulate her for doing us proud out there.”

In her own remarks, Ms. Gbondo thanked the President and all Sierra Leoneans for the tremendous support that saw her survive for eight weeks in the ten-week programme. She said she got the motivation to enter the competition from the President himself, because “when you came to power, you said youths should make use of their talents… And I believe you are the only President in Africa that has launched attitudinal and behavioural change as a national policy… and from my perspective, Sierra Leonean is changing in terms of mentality and perceptions.” She said from this, it could be seen that something good would come out of Sierra Leone, even as she revealed that she was now working on a musical project which she would want the President to launch in the near future.

She revealed how a mysterious fire incidence consumed all their property, and that she would have gone further in the competition if not for the psychological breakdown caused by the incidence.
