Freetown Councilor offers scholarship to 12 primary schools
The Councilor of Ward 333, Ayor Olu Jones gave out 12 scholarships to pupils of various primary schools in his ward.
In his keynote address, the councilor said it is not all about politics but about development in the community, adding that he will also continue to offer scholarships to school going children in his ward.
The scholarship package contains Le100,000 each, a mathematical set and a dozen note books.
The chairperson for the occasion congratulated the councilor for what he has done and urged parents to monitor their children in their school work.
Addressing the recipients, the chairman said the scholarship is meant to make them feel happy for what they have done, not only for themselves but also for their parents.
The Chairman for Western Area Rural District Council, Mr. Alhassan Cole said the day was a history making event in the Goderich community, noting that the pupils need a conducive environment to learn to enable them do well. He said there are more plans for those who are doing well in school.
Mr. D.T. Nyoma who represented the parents welcomed the gesture and thanked the councilor for his offer. He further thanked the teachers and parents, saying that both parties have done well through their hard work.
Sorie Sesay who spoke on behalf of the teachers appealed to parents to stop buying mobile phones as the first thing for their children, but to buy them learning materials. He encouraged the pupils to continue the good work in their various schools and their community.
Mrs. Violette Elliott, who gave the vote of thanks, lauded the effort of the councilor and prayed that he will continue the good gesture and called on the recipients to do better than they have done.
