Bumbuna light so near yet far away from Bumbuna town
Residents of Kalasongoia Chiefdom, Tonkolili District have proven the proverb that says one cannot live on the bank of a river and wash hands with spittle because the much talked about Bumbuna Hydro is situated at their chiefdom yet they are living in Bumbuna without electricity.
According to the Paramount Chief of Kalasongoia Chiefdom, PC Alimamy Bockarie Yalan Koroma 111, he expressed confidence that the people of Bumbuna will celebrate this year’s Christmas with electricity from the Bumbuna hydro electric dam as SALINI construtori is currently running underground cables that would enable the town to be electrified by December though the initial electrification would only cater for half of the households in the township.
However, those whose houses will be electrified lauded the government while those that will not be benefiting from the facility expressed disappointment over the exclusion of their homes from the electricity supply. Sounding the views of the community people in the chiefdom about the reality of the hydro electric plant, a section chief who chooses animosity told this medium that the hydro plant currently faced serious problem, the reason for the installation of the thermal plant to complement the effort of the hydro plant until the problem is solved.
Responding to the question as to whether it will be possible for the whole town to be electrified, the section chief noted that the possibility is not certain that is why they are trying to light up half of the town for now.
