As Ramadan begins tomorrow… Ambassador Munu appeals to Sierra Leoneans to pray for nation

The Royal Court in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced on Tuesday, 10^th August, 2010 that the Muslim fasting month (Ramadan) would start in the Kingdom on Wednesday, 11^th August 2010, Saudi local tabloids reported.

The announcement, according to the report, came after several people sighted the Ramadan crescent in different parts of the country. Shortly after the sighting of the crescent was announced on Saudi TV and Radio, the Embassy of the Republic of Sierra Leone under the leadership of the Ambassador, H.E. Wusu B. Munu (in photo with top officials at the Saudi Foreign Ministry) officially informed the authorities in Freetown about it and congratulated all Muslims on the holy month.

Meanwhile, as Sierra Leoneans prepare to join Muslims all over the world to observe the fasting tomorrow, the Ambassador has called on all his nationals’ resident in the Kingdom to use this holy period to pray for the progress, prosperity, sustainable peace and development of Sierra Leone.

He also appealed to them to pray for the protection and guidance of their leader, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, unity and peaceful co-existence in the country.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. During the blessed month of Ramadan, Muslims all over the world abstain from food, drinks, and other physical needs during the daylight hours. Muslims also use this month to re-evaluate their lives in light of Islamic guidance. The Arabic word for “fasting” (sawm) literally means “to refrain” – and it means not only refraining from food and drink, but from evil actions.
