SALPOST to regulate Postal Sector Policy
The Sierra Leone Postal Services (SALPOST) has put together a Draft National Postal Sector Policy to regulate the postal sector in the country.
Acting Managing Director of SALPOST, Mohamed Issah Kanneh told Sierra Express Media that the sector had been operating without any regulatory framework which “has led to infiltration into the sector by operating under clandestine means.”
He said the current laws governing the sector were obsolete and inadequate to match with the current challenges in the postal market.
Mr. Kanneh said people were wrongly infiltrating the postal sector through what he called the ‘Liberal or Free Market Economy’. He said the policy after validation would direct the operations of all players in the sector.
He added that the policy would bring about protection and guarantee to all the areas the sector was incurring losses. Mr. Kanneh said SALPOST had tried to regain its presence in all the regions of the country.
