IMAT College Holds Orientation

The Institute of Management Accounting and Tourism (IMAT) held its second administrative orientation in the country since the institute was established on June 17 2008. The college, located at Mountain Cut in the Eastern part of Freetown, “has been responsible for the tertiary education of thousands of Sierra Leoneans since its establishment and hopes to continue,” the Managing Director Mr. Amadu Bah said during the orientation ceremony.

In his opening statement the Managing Director stated that students at the college undertake the orientation course session as the first requirement which all institutions normally give to incoming students in order to know the administrative system and academic position of the institution. He noted that the college is an affiliate of recognized Business Management Universities in the United Kingdom and works assiduously to ensure that standards in those Universities are transferred to students of the college here in Sierra Leone. Mr. Bah expressed that the college can boast of lecturers of very high caliber and standards who have been recruited from various Universities in the country.

Speaking on discipline, Mr. Yayah Kargbo Discipline Officer on the College Administration said the institution has a standard code of conduct that bounds all students, lecturers and employees of the college; noting that “if any academic institution has to develop and be taken seriously, discipline and standard has to be maintained in the highest degree.” He commented on the dress code of particularly women who he said must be tailored in such a way that after graduation they are better able to represent the college. Students, it was said, have to fulfill certain criteria before gaining admission into the college as according to the administration, the college hopes to set the pace in the academic parlance in the country. He however noted that the college conducts a one year access course for students that meet minimum criteria; after the one year, students of good standing may be admitted in the main stream programme.

Administrative Officer of the College Mr. Mohamed Fofanah in his remark called on all those wanting benefit from quality education to seek admission in the institution; encouraging continuing students to be prompt in their fees payment and take their study seriously.
