Lecturer dragged to court on 44 counts

Lecturer at the Port Loko Teachers College, Augusta Hawa Turay of No. 10 Abijan Street, Lungi has been dragged to court by 22 people and will make her first appearance on a forty-four count charge of obtaining money by fraud other than false pretence and obtaining goods by false pretence.

According to a police source, the accused took the sum of Le60,000,000 from twenty-two people and took twenty two passports from twenty two different people saying she will help them travel to Australia.

After collecting the money and the passports, the accused escaped to Ghana where she was traced by one of the victims who later discovered that the whole programme was a flux.

While in Ghana, Augusta called her victims to inform them that the programme that would take them to Australia had gone through successfully and therefore demanded her balance money. She was told that when she got back to Sierra Leone she would receive the remaining amount.

A week after her arrival in Sierra Leone she was arrested by residents at Lungi and whisked off to the CID where she was detained pending investigation.

She has already been charged to court on forty-four count charge and will make her first court appearance today.
