ACC strikes deal with importers and exporters

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Sierra Leone Import and Export Promotion Agency (SLIEPA).

The ceremony took place last Friday, 9th July 2010 in Freetown. Officials say the agreement will enhance information sharing between the two institutions and remove administrative barriers to private sector growth in Sierra Leone.

The ACC’s Acting Commissioner, Morlai Buya-Kamara said the MOU was very important because it would give confidence to potential investors.

He said the agreement would also send a signal that the country was a viable business destination.

“It’s supposed to be a very serious partnership,” he said at the signing ceremony. Mr. Buya-Kamara added that the commission had made important gains in the fight against corruption and makes the country investment friendly.

SLIEPA’s Chief Executive Officer, Patrick Caulker said the agency had attracted a number of investors but were concerned with their personal safety and their investment. He said the partnership between SLIEPA and the ACC would guarantee protection and confidence to those they were trying to attract.
