Edmund Koroma: The maker of NASSIT or?
While Sierra Leoneans shed tears for the government’s inability to place honest, competent and upright individuals in public positions, mouths of elites all the time go busy, discussing and analyzing contributions of few persons, who time without number, have proved worthy of result while in positions of authority.
In the history books of this country, it is but definitive that names of public officers, to be specific, Edmund Koroma gives uncountable compliment when successes of the national social security trust (NASSIT) are tabled for discussion.
Of course, the ‘yes’ response is always an answer to issues in which a man is referred to as ‘a prophet increasingly unacknowledged in his country,’ but in the case of Edmund Koroma, he is looked at as a prophet to cherish than utterly discouraged.
No matter what people might say, and although others keep saying it, Edmund Koroma’s tenure of office at NASSIT, characterized by the controversy around the purchase of ferries later called carcasses, findings have confirmed that the purchase of the said boats was done in the presence and consent of officials of finance and labour respectively.
Edmund Koroma, by far, has enviable characteristics and because he constantly does the uncommon and continues to strongly protect his hard earned reputation, his enemies see him as threat, and have taken up themselves to throw negative words at him in a bid to undo him and make him unpopular.
Researches say Edmond Koroma was schooled as professional economist in the United Kingdom; and as at date of gaining money-making knowledge, up until now, the London trained economist has played pivotal role in filling the bread basket of Sierra Leone.
The straight but clear example to say is make whole Edmund’s uncountable successes while as head of the National Social Security Trust (NASSIT).
Tongues have wagged and continue to wag, but these same cynics have cleverly justified Edmund’s unwavering and resolute role in realising the general success of NASSIT – a trust society now boast of in all quarters.
NASSIT success stories are not in doubt but show clearly Edmund Koroma’s sober leadership.
Debates in the four corners of Sierra Leone have generally queried the controversial purchase of the two boats by NASSIT, which by all stretch of the imagination may only become a liability to actual beneficiaries of NASSIT.
Many cast blame on Edmund Koroma. Others say it was due to the deception and illusion of the brokers who, though aware of the fact that the boats were old, sold same to the buyers.
It makes good to have civil society stop casting aspersions on individuals but find ways of bringing the boats into effective use.
