Police Arrest 10 Armed Robbers
The Sierra Leone Police have arrested ten armed robbers including two women at the Kafu Bullom Chiefdom in the Port Loko district. They accused have already made their first appearance at the Lungi Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday 28th of June 2010 charged with conspiracy to rob.
The ten accused were refused bail and remanded at the Lungi court.
This was disclosed in an interview with the Director of Media and Public Relations, ASP Ibrahim Samura at his George Street office in Freetown. He said the armed robbers were from Freetown and were harbored by the two women who are alleged to be commercial sex workers.
He disclosed that armed robbers always plan their criminal activities in the ghettos and because of that all the ghettos at the Kaffu Bullom Chiefdom have been closed by the police while closely monitoring clandestine activities in the chiefdom.
Last Monday at about 2 a.m. armed robbers, armed with guns, sticks and machetes, broke into the house of one Hinods Morray and stabbed him on his head and carted away mobile phones, a laptop computer and a huge amount of money.
Samura also disclosed that the Military Aid to Civil Power (MACP) is now in control and that every thing is calm.
In another development, three boat owners who transport people to and from the ferry terminal in Kissy to the Lungi Targrin terminal have been arrested and they are now helping the police with investigations as it was alleged that three of them beat and molested a military officer on duty at the Lungi ferry terminal.
Investigation of the matter is in progress, whilst the military officer in question has been issued a medical report and is presently taking treatment at the Lungi Government Hospital.
