Witness Tells Court Afsatu son’s employment was legal
Prosecution witness No. 9 in the ongoing trial between the State and former Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Afsatu Kabba (in photo)Â yesterday took the witness box before Justice Samuel Ademusu where he told the court that he was not under any pressure to employ the son of the accused Afsatu Kabbah. He described himself as a civil servant who is in charge of employing people for the Bumbuna Project Implementation Unit.
The witness further told the court that Afsatu’s son was employed by him because the unit was looking for somebody to help them in carrying out administrative assignments and thus a letter of appointment was given to him on the 1st May 2008.Â
Prosecution witness No 10 who has been a civil servant for the past 36 years at the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources also told the court that he is in charge of Technical, Administrative and Junior staff at the Kissy Dock Yard and the Tombo Fisheries yards.
A voucher was shown to him to tell the court if he ever knew about the pay voucher for Le 160 million meant for the repair of their office in Tombo. The witness answered in the negative, saying he only saw the voucher at the Anti Corruption Commission.
The matter was adjoined to the 6th July 2010.
