Why the Verbal Attack on SLFA President?

Every blessed day, one or two Football officials in the country could be heard expressing negative sentiment against the first and only Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) female President, Isha Johansen (in photo).

Recently, one of the Newspapers carried a front page story titled “Deputy Minister Labeled SLFA President as a Fathom Liar”. Ishmael Alsankoh was supporting his former Boss, Paul Kamara for the Iron Lady; Mamma Salone as she was simply described by the former Minister of Sports.

Today, all those who were fighting to install Mammy Johansen as SLFA President are now scrambling to remove her from the envious position. Is it that Isha Johansen is facing confrontations and verbal attacks from Football stakeholders and fans because she is allegedly acting un-democratically by not listening to views of others, or is it that she is not respected because she is a woman?.

In our society, men are always thinking that they should not be controlled by women, may be that would likely be the reason that always leading to the frequent attack against the female President. She has right as a woman to hold any public office in the land.

The Sierra Leone Elections 2018 Citizens Manifesto demanded that political parties and Presidential candidates commit to allocating at least 40 percent of local council and parliamentary nominations to women because they believed that increased women’s representation in governance will help change the face of politics and improve the quality of representation in parliament and communities. The Citizens Manifesto also outlined that women currently occupied only eleven percent of parliamentary seats although they make up over half of the population of Sierra Leone.  So what is wrong about it if Mammy Johansen is serving as SLFA President?

Football stakeholders in the country demonstrated their intention to unseat the SLFA female President during the Eastern Lions Chairman, Sanusi Bruski Kargbo’s official declaration at the Victoria Park.

The declaration ceremony witnessed high turnout of Bruski’s supporters including the former closest rival of Mrs. Johansen, Rodney Michael. During the ceremony, the SLFA Presidential aspirant, Sanusi Bruski challenged that they are not going to allow any postponement of the proposed elective congress which is supposed to be hold in August this year but it was put on hold by the world Football governing body FIFA through a press release that until stakeholders settle their internal rift.
