Sewa Ground traders call for recognition

Traders at the standstill constructed Sewa Grounds Market Victoria Park have called on the management of National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) and the Freetown City Council (FCC) to recognize traders who have spent a lot of their personal resources to build about 50 shops at the said market.  (Photo:Mayor Bode Gibson engages traders at Sewa Ground)

Findings reveal that 50 traders earlier paid to the Council Engineer with leased documents which gave rights for them to occupy the said shops.

It was said that FCC negotiated with the traders on the terms and conditions which the traders agreed upon.   These traders are therefore calling on NASSIT and FCC to engage them on solution before demolishing any structure for another plan.

Speaking on behalf of traders, the Chairman Sewa Ground Market Victoria Park Alhaji Alusine Kargbo urged NASSIT and FCC to look into the issue properly and appease traders before carrying any further construction because those traders have suffered a lot in constructing those shops.

He revealed that during a meeting organized recently by NASSIT at Big Market that attracted traders from different market centers across the Municipality aimed at discussing   issues bordering on the development of trade.

The Traders expressed hope for a modern market plan rather than the abandon project construction at the Victoria Park in Freetown.
