UN Coordinator applauds President Koroma
The newly appointed Resident Coordinator to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) David McLachlan-Karr (in photo) has showers praises on President Koroma for doing a lot in fighting the endemic, corruption especially his zero tolerance approach and also steps towards improving the business climate and attracting investors with strong responsible businesses, upholding the rule of law, access to justices and restoring faith in Institutions.
Maclachlan-Karr spoke on the need for authorities to widen the political space – to ensure healthy pluralism in the democratic system and avoid regional or ethnic divide, rising inequality and access to opportunity as it is important that the windfall from the rich resources of Sierra Leone is invested in people and used to grow the tax base and land reform.
He calls for the need for better service delivery in health and Education as the country is still ranked as one of the highest rates with infant and maternal mortality in the world with pervasive poverty and unemployment is the order of the day especially among the youths.
Proffering solutions, Maclachlan-Karr said these challenges require Sierra Leoneans to work together and place national interest above all. He recalled the United Nations Secretary General’s visit to Sierra Leone in March this year where all major political parties spoke with one voice in a joint statement in which they committed themselves to work towards a peaceful future.
He said they will be working across the development spectrum to provide support in the country’s development Agenda for Prosperity in pillars 1, 2, 3,5,6,7 and 8.
