President Koroma receives top-notch Chinese investors

After officially launching the Sierra Leone National Action Plan for the full implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1325 (2000) and 1820 (2008) at the Miatta Conference Youyi Building in Freetown, where he said the occasion demonstrated his government’s determination to ensure that women are not only beneficiaries of development but can also play a critical role in the development of Sierra Leone, President Ernest Bai Koroma yesterday 8th June 2010 received in audience at State House a galaxy of 24 top investors from China.

The delegation, led by the Chairman of China Kingho Group, Qinghua Huo, is in Sierra Leone on the invitation of President Koroma during his recent visit to Shangai, and includes investors in Mining, Tourism, Banking, Agriculture and other related areas.

According to Minister of Foreign Affairs Zainab Bangura, who introduced the delegation to the President, the purpose of the visit is to see and have first-hand information on possible areas of investment in Sierra Leone, and as a result the group will be traveling to various areas across the country.

While welcoming the delegation, President Koroma thanked them for honouring his invitation at so short a time, which he attributed to the strong Sino-Sierra Leonean ties that have existed and endured through the years. He asked them to move across the country freely, explore possible areas of investment, and consider Sierra Leone their home.

He informed them that the country is in the process of transformation, with his government vigorously pursuing the result-oriented ‘Agenda for Change’ with priority in Energy, Infrastructure, Mining and Tourism for possible investment.

The President took the opportunity to commend the Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, whom he referred to as “a good pillar of support.”

Responding, Chairman Qinghua Huo expressed thanks and appreciation to President Koroma for the invitation and for taking time off his busy schedule to see them. He said their presence in Sierra Leone underlines their determination to engage in massive investment and deliver as agreed with the President in Shangai, and to generally help bring development to the nation.

The delegation’s itinerary include  visitations to Ferengbeya, Pepel Port, Marampa Mines, Bumbuna Hydro Power Station, Magbass Sugar Complex, Rombey Rice Fields, Rolakoh Rice Fields, Teko Husbandry Station, Gola Forest, Rubber Plantation, Palm Oil Plantation, Rutile Mine, and Tomabom Rice Fields.

They will leave on Sunday 13th June 2010.
