Bench warrant for defiant soldier
Justice of Peace, at Freetown Magistrate Court No. 9, Messers Collen and Steven Coker, yesterday issued a bench warrant for defiant soldier Beckley Jarrett, deployed at Freetown Battalion, Wilberforce Garrison, and also of 1 Gooding Drive, Off Wilkinson Road, Freetown. Mr. Jarrett has been served a summons for threatening remarks against his neighbors and deliberately refusing to appear before the court to answer to the charge levied against him.
It was alleged that the soldier, on or about the 30th and 31st day of May this year, threatened to harm and kill Valentine Williams, Rashidatu Kamara (wife) and Ericca Williams (Daughter), all of 1 Gooding Drive. Â
Since the soldier was not present in court a bench warrant was issued for his immediate arrest and subsequent appearance before the court today June 8th 2010. Sergeant Dumbuya is persecuting the matter with lawyer Martha Sesay associating.
The said soldier is said to have caused serious havoc in the locality over the months by openly abusing and threatening neighbours more especially Valentine and family members, emphasizing that nothing will come out of it.
A neighbour of the soldier, who spoke to this medium when our reporter visited the locality said it is a disappointment and embarrassment for the people of this country for their military personnel to behave in such manner after being reformed and retrained out of donor tax payer’s money. He called on military authorities to take stringent measures against such person.Â
