Economic and Business Journalism gets a boost
Freetown – Journalists from 13 media institutions throughout Sierra Leone who have just completed a 4-day training organised by Sierra Leone Association of Journalists and the World Bank Group in Sierra Leone have set themselves into a network.
“The Network of Development and Economic Reporters (NEDER), should strive to report that side of our country that does not get much media attentionâ€, SLAJ President, Umaru Fofana told the NEDER members.
He said there had never been a time in the country’s recent history, when business and investment in Sierra Leone had been talked about and acted upon as much as it was happening now. “This,†he went on, “should be taken further and reported in a manner that considers the interest of the people of Sierra Leone and the genuine players.†He appealed for more local as well as international training of NEDER members.
The journalists, drawn form both print and electronic media in Freetown, Bo, Makeni and Kenema, expressed determination to prioritise economic and business reporting.
The Co-Coordinators of NEDER, Millicent Massaquoi of CTN and Augustine Beecher of Premier News expressed commitment to ensure that the reporting of business and development was uplifted in the media.
