I B Kargbo signs new world communication pack in Paris
Sierra Leone’s erudite Information and Communication Minister, Alhaji Ibrahim Ben Kargbo, Saturday, 5th June appended his signature on behalf of the government, for Sierra Leone to become a member of the new telecommunication network linking Africa and Western Europe.
The signing ceremony which also included other countries in the sub-region took place at the famous and historic Eiffel Tower in Paris.
The new telecommunications pack known as the Africa Coast to Europe (ACE) Submarine Cable will provide telecommunication services between and among Africa and Western Europe by means of submarine cable and satellite facilities.
The parties plan to supplement such facilities with an optical fibre submarine cable system called the ACE Submarine Cable.
The countries that are part of this telecom discovery are France, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Canary Islands (Spain), Mauritania, Sierra Leone, Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea-Conakry, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Sao Tome & Principe, DR Congo, Angola, Namibia and South Africa.
Other members of the delegation to witness this historic achievement include Hon. Momodu Kargbo (Deputy Minister of Finance), Alpha Sesay (Managing Director of Sierratel), Mohamed Alie Bah (Director of Communications, Ministry of Information and Communication), Mohamed Sheriff ( Director of ICT, Sierratel), Gilbert Cooper (Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Information and Communication), Alhassan Mansaray (Senior Economist, Ministry of Finance and Economic Development) and Madam Michala Mackay (NATCOM’s Director of Legal Affairs and Licences).
